MFA circuit in a '85 1.8 GTi

The wife's MFA has been blank for some time now. It started to fade out and then died completely.  Originally the problem was caused by the conductive rubber strips between the MFA PCB and the LCD.  I cleaned these and it was cured for a few months so I repeated the procedure this time - to no avail…

I have removed the instrument cluster, replaced 4 electrolytic capacitors (2x 10uF and 2x 100uF) as these are always due to fail, reflowed the PCB but the LCD is still blank.

Is there anyone out there who might have access to a circuit diagram or schematic for these things?  My PCB is Moto Meter part no. 5 4401 184 10.  Very rarely do these CMOS chips fail so it must be a simple problem…

I might have to go for a known working MK2 MFA/ instrument cluster and do some modding if there is no success.
