Main beam trouble

Both of my front lights dont work on main beam,the small bulbs for parking lights work but no joy out of the big bulbs and the blue dash light doesn't come on either.Checked the fuses,bulbs,fusebox and earths.Its a 83 gti.Guess all thats left to check is the switch :dontknow: .Do the lights have a relay?Thanks any ideas welcome!!!

             how did you sort out your main beams? I've got exactly the same problem with my '83 GX…..was it a relay? do you know which one? Tried all fuses bulbs etc………

i'm having the same trouble too. side lights come on but the main beam only when it feels like it?
i suspected a relay too, anyone know about this one??

Possibly the column switch?

In my case it was indeed a switch that i had worked loose whilst decluttering my wiring(tearing out anything related to the stereo)not sure if it was a switch behind the full beam stalk or if it was the main switch to turn the lights on as i had a friend to look at it at the time but i think it was something on the stalk side had worked loose. Hope thats of some help as i remember it being a frustrating experience :wink: Also im ninety percent sure the headlights dont have a relay!But if someone could confirm that id like to know for sure.Thanks.
