Loom question

Just about to start my 16v conversion, but i'm losing too many nights sleep thinking about wiring it all up. Anyway my problem is that i'm converting from a small block carb engine so don't know which loom(s) to use. I can only think of 3 options, could somebody tell me if any of these are viable

1. Use my original engine bay loom to run all things like temp, oil pressure etc etc and add the 16v loom to control the rest (don't know if this is actually possible)

2. Swap my loom for an injection model loom (gti??) and run the 16v loom with this one (according to the faq off manic gti this is possible)

3. swap the whole lot for 16v loom (seems a bit daunting to me :dontknow: )

I would recommend you use the original loom for the basics like temp, oil pressure, etc as already exists. Then add the relevant wires you need, for the 16V bits:

Extra connections for ECU (+12V from coil, earth, coolant temp, etc)
Warm up Regulator
Aux air valve (if you're using one)
Cold start valve, if you're going to wire it up
Thermo time switch, if you're going to have one
Oil pressure gauge?
Oil temp gauge?

Most of the above are already included if you were starting out with a GTI. But its not a significant number of wires, so you may as well just add them. In any case, they're all in the wrong place once you swap them over.

Also you'll need to wire up a fuel pump relay, making sure it takes a trigger from the coil to its 5th terminal too, for safety reasons.

A little clearer now cheers paul. I suppose it will all become a little easier once i'm ready to start wiring up, i've only just started stripping the engine down at the moment and already i'm worrying about wiring.

One thing i'm not 100% on is the fuel pump relay??

You'll need an electric fuel pump, accumulator, GTI tank and GTI fuel lines. So you'll need the fuel pump relay.

I got the gti tank and accumulator, pump i have yet to buy. So will the relay just simply plug into my existing fuse box or does it have to be literally wired in??
