LOOKS LIKE MY GTI DOES'NT WANT ME TO SELL IT IGNITION PROB

Ok i put my mk1 gti up for sale as ireally need somthing more practical.

Had a couple of prob's which i've done but now :banghead:

When i turn the ignition on i get no ig lights and the voltage gauge stays put if i wire across from the bat to the coil starts and runs fine as soon as the wire's off dead.
It has a lazer line alarm and a second immobilizer built into the horn.

Is the immobilizer acting up or is it somthing simple like relays?

Checked all the fuses i can visibly see.

Help would be appreciated.

And if it works sod it i'll keep the bugger to keep it happy

It could be the immobiliser but its more likely to be the ignition switch. You'd need to use a voltmeter to test the electrical signals after the ignition switch but before the immobiliser, to check which one is at fault. I am assuming you can hot-wire the car and it runs fine, etc.

Check for water in the fusebox and that all the connections at the back of the fusebox are nice and tight.

All the above now checked and found to be good,
 :dontknow:
Sooo could the alternator be at fault can't see a bad earth and nothing was removed replaced.
Just to recap i don't get ign light's but the car will run with a wire across from battery to coil but die's as soon as it's off

One other thing is the indicator light will come on when the key's in the on postion but no indicators untill the cars running  :banghead:

Failing all this does anyone know to a cheap but good auto electrician in the wolverhampton area.

Cheers John

I had the exact same symptoms and it was the connectors inside the blocks that press into the fusebox. Had an autoelectrician out who put a bypass wire in so if the contact was broken in the block then the bypass would keep it working.

Said all the blocks and pins could do with replacing so I would double check.

If it's not that then I don't know…
