Intermitant wipers and rear wiper
this may sound stupid but do the intermitant wipers just work? or do you ahve to set the timing for the delay as when i put the stalk to the intermitant position the wipers do diddly squat, and also how does the rear wiper work? because as far as i can tell it will only wipe if i spray the rear wash wipe, could this all be down to a shot wiper relay? if so wheres best to get one from?
cheers
Karl.

You need the correct relays front and rear. With regards to the rear, you give the stalk a press which wipes once. You then give it a press when you want it to wipe again. This sets the delay. Next time you press it, it will wipe with that delay time. You stop it with another press. Yes the rear wash fires up at the same time.

Yeha - think you must have a modified relay or sommat - the original Mk1 rear wiper had no intermittent setting, which I found really annoying, especially when back screen keeps misting up on wet motorway.
It's dead easy to convert to intermittent by swapping the relay - I got one out of a Scirocco, and it gives intermittent after one push. Another push switches it off. A long push gives wash and a few wipes.
I'll get the relay part number and stick it on here one day, as you can buy them new from VW

One of the first posts I read on here after getting my mk1 was about the later relays, so I grabbed a handful on a scrapyard mission. I never use the rear wipe, but it's nice to know I have it just in case.

after looking at my fuse box it would appear i have a relay missing at the very top of the box as you look at it as there are wires going to where a relay should be but no relay, is this where the intermitant wiper relay goes?
