instuments not working!
hi all, well been changing gear box but mannged to short out electrics! all the electrics where fine but now the rev counter, ignition lights, fuel guage and engine temp dont work on the dash but the car will start! have i wrecked a relay? smoke was seen near fuse box! :roll: all fues's look fine! any help would be great as i feel like tap dancing on the roof of the car at the mo!

does anyone know how the clock get there power? is there a relay?

Sounds like you are in trouble? Pull out the relay below the fuel pump relay and see if you can smell burning. I'm not sure what that relay does.

Top row,second one from left is fuel pump.Big one with 2 large copper connector spades
No.17 on my car is the one below
Check the earths are connected in engine bay and on gearbox,I believe there is also one under the car but dont know what it does
Fuse-swap for a known good one
Just in case,check the earth wire to the back right rocker cover bolt is still there

cool, got tomorrow off work so going to try and track down the fault! grrrrrrrrr

…..did this and had same symptoms on my 'Old Faithfull' and turned out the voltage regulator/stabiliser had been wrecked when the electrics shorted……item 19 in the following..

woooo where did you get that info from ? it looks the nuts .
im just after finding drawings for dash lights , the dimmer switch has melted . i think due to a short in one of the positive wires to the lights . tring to track them down is a bit of a mare . its a grey with blue stripe .
would you have a drawing for this too ? :wink:
mine is a 89 cabrio with a 16v conversion think its still the 8v clocks and loom tho .

You have checked the fuses yes?
As if you have shorted something a fuse SHOULD blow

all the fuses look fine! i might just replace them all anyway i suppose you never know! there was smoke near the fuse box at one point but i couldnt see where it had come from!
