INDICATORS DONT WORK

HI.
AFTER A LONG TIME LOOKING I BOUGHT A MK1, 83 GTI, MARS RED. NOT CONCOURSE, BUT NEEDS A FEW BITS. I PICKED IT UP FROM DEVON AND SET OFF FOR A FAULTLESS 320 MILE TRIP HOME. I DROVE IT FOT A COUPLE OF MONTHS, ON THE LAST DAY BEFORE GARAGING FOR THE WINTER INDICATORS STOPPED WORKING (GREEN LIGHT ON DASH STAYS ON WHEN SIGNALLING AND NOTHING SHOWING OUTSIDE). THEN THE BATTERY WENT FLAT. I STORED THE CAR, THEN LAST WEEK BOUGHT A NEW ALTERNATOR AND FITTED IT… TRIED FUSES, A NEW RELAY, STILL NOTHING… HAVNT DRIVEN AS YET AS MOT EXPIRED… NO BATTERY LIGHT ON DASH SO STILL NOT SURE IF ALTERNATOR WAS AT FAULT OR IF IT IS NOW CHARGING…    ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS OR DO I JUST PHONE AN AUTO ELECTRICIAN???

Buy a new battery , clean ALL the earth points on the car then try again .

Hazard/indicator relay could be at fault... I have one that needs a new home if you want.

Thanks for the offer, but I have bought and fitted a new relay with no joy, I'll try cleaning the earth terminals if I can find them

After fiddling about for a couple of hours found the fault to be hazard switch had fallen apart inside... Put it back together and indicators work only when hazard is switched on... Dont work when it is in off position... Just need to locate a brand new switch now???

Just fitted a brand new hazard light switch... all now working fine... fingers crossed for the MOT next week!!!
