Immobiliser
I have a VW mk1 Citi.
It has an immobiliser fitted which has gone faulty (I can't start the car). I have a Haynes manual for this model but the immobiliser circuit is not in the diagram.
Can anybody help me to deactinate it. :dontknow:

find the control box for the immob unit, then trace each and every wire from it. you should be able to locate the circuits that are immobilised and rejoin by matchign wire colours.

if the immob is factory just tracing the wires might not be enough. if the immob is fitted inside the ecu all you will do is end up making the wiring a mess. before you start you need to find what sort of immob is fitted, with a citi i would start looking in south africa for info. possibly easier to get new control box to repair rather than pulling all out

unlikely its going to have an immobiliser built into the ecu, thats a MK3 Golf thing and only post 96.
if it is built into the ecu a new control box wont help either, because the box is matched to the chip in the key. new one wont have any match and therefore you'll still be up sh*t creek as it were

"The Volkswagen Citi Golf was a car produced by Volkswagen in South Africa from 1984 until 21 August 2009" taken from wikipedia. so your telling me that a car produced in 2009 with all the emission controls will not have an ecu!
control boxes can always be replaced as its straight forward to recode the keys

no I'm not saying that, read what I posted. I'm saying its unlikely the immobiliser is built into the ecu as per MK3. I did have a look on ETKA, and it seems the immob box is the type with a seperate key that you touch into a hole in the dash, rather than the type with a reader coil round the ign barrel as per MK3 Golf onwards.
and no, its not straight forward to recode keys on a different immobiliser box, believe me I have tried. the only time it is easy is if there is already a matched key, then you can find out the SKC code and easily add more keys. if you dont have a matched key, you have to take it to vw for them to do it for you.
Of course I could be wrong and later models may have had a later VAG type immobiliser. the trouble comes from around 99 on the immobiliser was moved inside the dash clocks, which is a whole different kettle of fish with having to get the clock milage sorted etc.
however, before we worry about these issues, what year is the citigolf, and what engine is fitted
