I would love to see the gear change indicator going

Anyone now how to get that gear change indicator and led going? I've owned my mk1 for 6 years and have never seen it in action!

Is the air pipe on the back of the clocks connected, the light should come on when you rev the car between 2-3000 revs and the indicator should come on when you put it in fifth gear

Pipes is connected, no light, no needle.

From memory lhasa, common problem discussed before is that the relay is often removed coz people got annoyed with the light. Worth checking the relay is there but I can't recall which one/position it is!

I think you're right hairy, the relay must be missing. Anyone got any idea where the relays is?

Cheers dubboy, will print off the fusebox diagram and keep it save in the car. I've been looking for that diagram for ages.

My gear change indicator is erratic! Sometimes works ok for hours  :? then doesn't light up for weeks after :x . I didn't know that there was sometihing behind the dash, what does it look like? I have seen the MFA vacuum hose, anything like that or am I getting it confused with the gear change indicator?

gear change indicator

Mine comes on at approx 1800 revs and stays on in all gears

No sign of needle on econometer

Suspect the connection from gearbox to loom is iffy

Anyone know which terminals connect to which?

If Its Loud and Noisy , I'll take its picture

We have a shift light? Wow that will be fun cant wait to sort out the electrics.

The deeper I delve the more problems i encounter.

Suppose its all part of the fun of owning a Mk1 :)

Dash lights first!!!

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday :D

i think its only the very late 83/84 mk1's that got the change light?
anyone confirm? :?

if you have one…

look at your dizzy, where the vac pipe comes out you will have diaphram switch type thing.

it has a 2 pin connector and a screw in the center.

this screw adjusts when the light comes on.  8O

ive told many peeps this before, but no ones bothered trying it i dont think

neil. :)

ps:baz it would be at the top of the clocks, where you would have mpg readings, the light is in the middle.
if you have one that is. :?:
