help, fuel and temp gauge not workin on my 83 cabby gti?
hey all,
looking for some advice… my fuel gauge and temp gauge have both packed up on my 83 cabby gti. does anyone have any idear what the problem could be and how to fix it? someone mentioned to me, that it could be linked to the printed circuit cluster, does this mean anything to anyone and where would i find one? Any advice gratefully excepted… :dontknow:
Cheers, Rob

did they pack up seperately or both together? As jelly says, you really need to see if its the senders that are nic nacked or the its the clocks, or the wiring inbetween. Start at the sender and work your way back towards the clocks
Both senders are easy to check if you have a multimeter

If both went together it is likely to be your voltage regulator has died, it is mounted on the back of the clocks and can be tested by the means shown in the haynes manual, think they call it a voltage stabiliser, they are available from most electronic retailers if you take the number written on the back down,
FYI the stabiliser looks like a small black tablet with three wires coming out of it, one is supplied with battery voltage, one is grounded and the other supplies the gauges you mention, also supplies the speed sensor on the MFA so check that your avg speed thing works if you have one.
HTH!
