They don't have to! I modified my heater box to blow warm air through the side vents, or cold air when heaters off….much nicer in these cold mornings, gives warm air on your hands (right hand only unless you do my other mod of adding a centre dash vent!) - posted pics of the mod ages ago, can't believe everyone hasn't done it!
