have read thru all help topics to no avail headlights issues

Can i start by saying that having spent the best part of an hour trawling thru all these posts i am still none the wiser. Wheres AlMK1 when i need him?!?!

Right, i have side lights, at both sides at all times (when the switch is on!)

i put lights to dipped beam on switch, and nothing happens, i have full beam when i pull the stalk towards me but if i let go they dont stay on. i had this problem in January and it turned out to be a fuse, but that was only on one side.

Fuses have been checked so i know its not the same problem again.

its an 1983 1272cc and its doing my nut at the moment, any help would be appreciated as long as its not "have yu checked this that and the other"that ive already mentioned and dont try pointing me towards any existing threads cos ive read them all and none are of any use to me!
i just wanna know what relay to change as from the pics ive seen on here arent the same as the one in my car!  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

Please don't call me fella- its deeply insulting to one whom is no such thing! ;)

Could be an issue with the column stalk. Mine had a problem where the brass contacts moved into the housing when I pushed the connector onto the housing. The strip overlaped onto 2 others shorting them out so nothing worked. Open it up and make sure they are all seated correctly.

Rigth changed switch on the dash board  and that cured it for a while- now im having similar problems. I have sidleuights, and full beam, but no dipped beam now! :(

could it be A) A Bad earth?
B) A wiring fault further down the line
C) i just struck unlucky with the 2nd hand headlight switch

or D) Something else? :S

i need my headligths for Sunday as we have a 380 mile journey to contend with :( to get to Ulitmate dubs and back :(

Maybe the multi connector for the column stalk has a bad connection, and when you changed the stalk you temporarily made a good connection,  hope you fix it
