gentle death
idle speed slowly reduces until stall. car usually nice and warm and choke in. a bit of choke can stop this but then prob dissappears and she starts revving. put in choke and the slow death begins???!??
found a small piece of cloth in fuel uptake pipe after ANOTHER stop on motorway incident. last time it was rust, this time its pieceofcloth.
want to try cleaning jets and carb as there may be bits that got past filter or something. any ideas/instructions?
MOT soon an i think shes too rich :?

This happened when i brought my first car a 1980 MK1 Polo L with 27K on clock ![:D](https://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/themes/default/images/ocf_emoticons/grin.png)
The choke would always have to be out when i came to a stop or slowed down and occasionally it would just knock out completely.
To solve it i gave my carb a serious deep clean! Ontop of that I also did this:
- New Spark Plugs (if your carb is dirty it's likely these are to)
- Checked all pipes for any cracks & either replaced them or taped them up with gafers tape (works a treat)
- I also put some fuel treatment into the engine with a full tank of petrol
At the time i used Comma Petrol Engine Flush:

(first at top of the page)
This sorted it all out for me, hope that helps.
