Fuel pump issue

Good day

I've recently bought a MK1 Gti 1985 and i'm busy sorting out the gremlins.

One of my concerns is the fuel pump.When i switch my ignition on, it stays running(pumping).

I dont know whether it should go off after a certain time or not?

The pump stays on basically after i have the igition or engine on.

I pulled out the fuel pump relay(No.2) and it made no difference.

Can anything tell me why this happens?

All 3 of my Mk1s do this too. I'd not worry about it, its not like its continuously building up pressure, since there's a send and return line.
