Fuel pump fuse blown - help please

Hi,

My '83 GTi cut-out yesterday and I found that the fuel pump fuse had blown. I replaced it with another and it blew immediately on turn-over. Is this because the fuel pump is knackered?

Thanks!

Fuel pump

Had the same problem a while back, ended up it was bare wiring near the oil filter head , so check the wiring on the engine bay.

Disconnect wires at fuel pump , turn ignition on with new fuze . Blows ? No ? Problem else where , Doesn't blow Pump faulty [rare to blow a fuze] . Have you tried a different  relay ?

Thanks guys.

The car was 5 min back from having the cambelt and a couple of oil seals changed so I wondered if the mechanic had trapped the fuel pump wires as totenkpof suggested but I tried chudds sugestion (plus bypassing the relay with a jumper) and the fuse didn't blow which leaves the pump I guess…

Fuel pump fuse blowing - more help please!

Wierd the pump runs fine direct from the battery without blowing a 15A fuse. Any suggestions as to what might have caused the fuse to blow (bearing in mind that the fuse doesn't blow when the pump is disconnected from the loom)?

Thanks
