Fitting stereo speakers, what size are the originals?

In my golf its only setup as mono (center speaker).

Now for christmas my dad has bought a new sony radio (I'll be keeping the old one but its not FM so its pretty useless really ) and a set of speakers which are unfortunately too big for the front (136mm across).

Now I want to keep it as original as possible so Im not going to start cutting the interior apart.

So, what size are those front speakers in the doors so we can swap these for the correct size speakers?

That seems abit tight looking when measuring the cover for it?

I suppose I could take the car and cover to the local audio store and try it before buying them.

I assume the backs are the same?

Also should the sides of the boot have covers?

Have a look at those threads. Speaker replacement suggestions are made there.

If im gettin yer right the speakers in the back should have covers, well sit under the trim as the cover is part of the trim.

Yea the covers are all there. Just the side walls of the boot.

Cheers and I should have these speakers soon, then I have to run the wires out to them. Eeeek!!!

a mate of mine with a 78 and a speaker in middle of the dash got some 4 inch round speakers and made a little mount outta mdf and mounted the speaker in that. it's hard to get a decent set of 6 x 4's so might be worth doin tht.
