If they flash too quicky it will fail the MOT, as they have to flash within a certain rate to pass. Normally indicators flashing quickly is typical of having a blown bulb on the circuit, and therefore the wrong resistance in the circuit when the relay is on, causing it to switch off quicker than it should, so firstly I'd check the bulbs.

Secondly if the bulbs are all ok, try changing the flasher relay they are very cheap and pretty universal.  As for the noise, the flasher relays can be pretty loud sometimes, depends on the relay.

Normally means one of the indicator bulbs blown. Check them all, should be normal when faulty one replaced.

Can they seriously fail MOT?

mine has been like that since I bought it (less than a year ago, had a new MOT)….

No bulbs gone, its prob a wiring issue for me.

Bugger.

you can get different relays, i.e ones for mk1s without side indicators and ones for with side indicators.
If you put a relay that is meant for a 6 light system it will flash fast in a 4 light car
If you get what I mean :?

I'm think I'm right that they are meant to flash within a certain tolerance?? Mind you how many MOT stations actually check this I don't know, as I see a lot of cars on the road with fast or slow indicators. Maybe I'm wrong, just something at the back of my mind i remember being told a while back.

Replaced the Hella type for a Lucas one .

Hella flash far too fast . Lucas like the English are much slower and more suited to UK .

Cheers……..
