Electronic Ignition

Has anyone upgraded to electronic ignition on a small block mk1?

I have a 1.3 cl, just had a brand new webber fitted and looking to make it reliable, smooth and economic as possible without seriously modifying it.

What kit is best and where do I get it?

I've done a bit of research and it seems this little bit of kit makes all the difference!

I've fitted lumenition to mine, and it's spot on. Seems to rev through far better.

You need to have a Bosch dizzy though. The Ducellier fitting kit is £70!!!

There is a dizzy from later polo's and Mk2 1300's that is electronic. It would be far cheaper than the way I did it, but I'm stupid :mrgreen:

unfortunaly the later polo/mk2 dizzy wont fit the early MK1 1.3 block

Would it fit the 1500 block?

no totally the wrong shape, what you want is a MK2 1.6/1.8 carb dizzy

John, thanks, i'll bare that in mind, for at some point it might be nice to have electronic ignition. As in the past there have been issues with the points.

k-jet 1.6/1.8 dizzy would also fit, but ign curve would be better suited to a gti cam

It just so happens i have one sitting in the kitchen. though i'm unsure if it's a straight swap, cam for cam.

with thew 1.5 im not so sure, id guess its a 1.6 gti one you want?

i've just bought a vac advanced electronic dizzy, wiring loom and modulator from an early polo!!! thought this conversion was a tried and tested swap!!
