Econometer

Driving to work this morning and the econometer on the dash suddenly stopped working :-(. 

It's an 83 campaign. Just had a new switch on the gearbox, and the reverse lights are still working. 

The little light no longer flashes and the needle doesn't appear when in fifth anymore. 

Anyone got any ideas on what to check first? 

There is a small vacuum pipe that runs from rear of clocks and go's to brake servo pipe. Very thin pipe comes out the middle of bulkhead. Try that for splits or falling off

Wouldn't that effect the mfa reading too? The mpg reading on mfa still works, just the little light and the needle. 

Have you pulled out the clocks to have a look?

Haven't had a chance yet. Been fixing the exhaust manifold gaskets today 

Fixed now though  no more ticking! Lovely. 

Ill be whipping them out tomorrow to do the speedo cable, which is clicking like mad. Ill have a scan to see if the vac pipe has come off. 

I was thinking it maybe something electrical? 

i had that clicking noise when i put my speedo cable back on all i did was press the rest button on the clock try that

Do you mean the trip mileage thing? Reset it back to zero? 

Ill try that! That'll be a nice easy fix if it works!! 

thats it. look at the trip mileage when you are driving and if its not going round then just reset it back to zero.it took me ages to find out were this clicking was coming from then i notice the trip mileage was,nt going round so i reset it and it went i was well chuffed try it and let me know.good luck
