Driver = GTI conversion HELP!!!

Hi there

I?m currently re shelling my GTI into a driver?s shell I?m well on my way to completion with tank etc all in! I was wondering if anyone can help me with wiring. The problem I have is my GTI is a 1600 x reg and the driver is a y reg therefore the driver has the new style fuse box. Does anyone know what wiring needs to be changed over and where it goes on the newer fuse box as my x reg fuse box and loom is corroded and messed around with I cant even relate to the older fuse box positioning for the wiring???? Cheers Jonny

You will need a complete GTi loom and fuze box . Use the entire ENGINE donor loom and fuze box . If this means you have to repair or replace bits then thats what you will have to do .

If you look at the rear of both fuse boxes you will see lighting looms are same so you could if in good condition leave the rear lighting loom as is and the front lighting loom as is . It would be very difficult to try and adapt a driver engine loom for GTi use . To many bits would be missing . A later fuze box will fit earlier cars , get a wiring diagram for both cars from Haynes manual or http://volkswagen.msk.ru/index.php?p=page09_g1

To put this in simple terms:

All the connections are correct for lighting, horn, battery, radator etc all on the right side loom left with the original fuse box in place.

The problem i have is with the left side loom witch has all been fed through and correctly wired up at the engine end but on the fuse box end the connections are diffrfent as the gti loom is of an older style fuse box i cant see how the loom connections will fit and where?? other than that theres just the fuel pump wiring to be done. Any more help would be appreciated.

Cheers jonny

You could always replace the plug at the fuze box end using new terminals from Vehicle Wiring Services but re using the mounting block . Following a diagram . This would be even easier if you do not want a working Mfa guage , you could just leave it as a clock .

Just a thought and faced with same problem what i would do .

Cheers………
