1.6 EG 1980 fuel pump relay wiring - should I have a go??

Hi folks, sooo... replaced the fuel pump relay, with a brand new one, still no joy. Thinking of re-wiring it from scratch, running wires from ign etc. Anybody ever done this? should I attempt it or get an auto eleccy to do it? Just thinking I could save some much needed money. Any guidance much appreciated!!

before you do that make sure its not the fuel pump wiring or whatever, jump a wire between the 30 and 87 terminals on the fusebox and the pump should fire up, if not need to look a bit deeper!

check plug A on the back of the fusebox too, maybe the fuel pump power pin has burnt out (see fusebox sticky, early ceramic fusebox)

to add another relay is pretty simple, get a decent vw relay holder and you can tap into the engine loom wires. tap into the thin red/black to pin C/19 for rev counter feed, G/3 spade for ignition live, one of the H spades for live and run the output to the 3 pin spade connector near the C pillar

Thanks for that! Tried jumping to 30 to 87 on the fuse box and no noise from the pump, however when i jump from 30 to the 3 spade connector in the pump loom it does turn on. I have rewired the relay, using the live from 30, and found an ign live for 15. Earthed 31b and sent 87 directly to this 3 spade junction thingy. unsure what to do with the 5th smaller pin.

31 is earth, 31b is rev counter feed (red/black wire to coil) :)
