Dim Dash Lights - LEDs any better?
Like it says on the tin…
I'm fed up with dim dash lights on my tintop - even with 2w bulbs they're a bit poo, and much more feeble than the bulbs in my VDO gauges ( ex Audi )
I know this has been dealt with, but has anyone got a decent improvement in their dash lights? Are LED's any better?
Has anyone tried wiring in extra bulbs, or putting better reflector behind existing bulbs?
…my eyes are dim, I cannot see….

I tried LEDS but didn't see any difference at all to be honest. I've gone back to using standard VAG 2w bulbs and just living with it as part of the Mk1 experience.

Hi ,That variable resistor on the light switch unit can sometimes
be a bad contact. If extra gauges and bulbs have been added it
can also burn out. There is not much point in it as inst panel lights
are dim anyway so shorting it out will ensure full volts to the
panel lights.
Keep smiling J.

Hi, thanks - I don't think I'll bother with the LED's just yet - although I did wonder about wiring in two or three on each side since they don't generate excess heat.
I'll try checking and cleaning all my contacts again. I must admit I never noticed this as a problem when I drove Mk1's years ago….wonder whether I've got used to 'modern' standards of dashboard lights, where you can actually read the mileometer after dark!!!

OK, so guess who's just wasted the afternoon fitting LED's to his dashboard. I bought 'side indicator' LED bulbs, thinking they might be extra bright and do the trick.
Result…absolute poo…no brighter than the 2w bulbs I had in place already!
I'm really fed up…thank God Tian's put his picture back…
