I've got an idea, take it back. My parents have got their own garage and we would never make a car worse and then just hand it back. If they can't sort it they will need to get another garage to carry out the works and foot the extra bill themselves.

Sorry to have a mini-rant but I'm fed up hearing about so-called "professional" garages who don't know how even simpler/older cars work and end up either skirting around the edges diagnosing, or bodging, or fixing but introducing new faults into a car.
Nothing much I can do about it though, except to advise not to pay any cash if you pick up a car and it doesn't work properly.
Long term, all I can say is get yourself a Haynes, and learn to do DIY stuff on a car.

Must admit most of the guys at my parents garage would prefer working on older vehicles as manufactureres are making it harder and harder for local garages to work on new ones.
