Dash lights and gauges not working

Decided to try to start sorting my stereo out tonight and also remove some dodgy tow bar wiring at the same time.
Took out a wire that was spliced into the wiring (black. white and green wire) on the steering console. All seemed ok. The stereo has been wired direct from the live and earth from the battery. The earth wire from the battery had come away so fixed that. There's no switched power input but thought maybe it doesn't have/need one. No speakers wired but am going to connect an amp. After sorting/checking all these connections there was no life from the stereo at all.
Also when turning the ignition on there are no dash lights at all and the petrol and temp gauges don't work. The fuse had gone but have replaced it. Still not working.

Any ideas?

Anyway I've sorted the stereo but still need to get the warning lights, rev counter and gauges working.  :banghead:

Would appreciate still appreciate any suggestions of things to check.

I'm trying to sort my gauges etc out today.

The main culprit i have read is that the earth wire to the valve cover has come off.  Check this.  Mine doesn't have this but does have an earth wire to the point near the fisebox.

Also on my clocks if i give the 14 pin connector a wiggle the rev counter and dash lights come alive, easy at the moment as i have no lower dash!

Hope this might help.

Took the lower dash off and the 14 pin connector had come off. It's back on now and all working.

You should find the 14 pin adapter on the lower right hand corner as your looking at the dash. Your speedometer cable sits behind the speedometer itself and has a squeeze connector if you know what I mean (you've got to squeeze the right place fot it to release)!

hi is this 14 pin con the only con that goes into the dash - as lights are not working -
i have checked the bulbs all ok -
and the indicator light is very slightly illuminated - but the rev counter clock and speedo lighst + the main been (bblue light ) does not come on - i have wiggled and replaced the 14 pin - should there be anything else - such as a plug that clips on the back of the 3 bulb houses ?!?!?

its a '91 plate

cheers
