Dash Bulbs...

Ok need to replace the clock/MFA bulb abd the heater control bulbs so whilst pulling the dash to bits might as well do all of them….

Can anyone give me a run-down on the types of bulbs used in the interior?

Also can any-one recommend LED replacements not going the Blue light route just for longevity…

I got the 2W versions from VW. I can't remember the part no., but they didn't break the bank. Made a big difference to the brightness.

The bulbs are all the same power-wise (1.2W, 12 volt), but have several different types of housings.

From memory (I changed mine an age ago) - all the bulbs in the clocks are the same and are push in and twist. I failed to get hold of any 2W versions of these bulbs.

The bulb in the heater control panel requires a special holder. The OE version is a complete assembly that cannot be dismantled. Replacement versions from VW allow you to remove the bulb from the holder for replacement if necessary.

I upgraded mine to 2W and it melted the control panel! Although it was appreciably brighter.

The bulb in the cigarette-lighter holder is different again, as are the bulbs in some (but not all) of the light/fogs/heated rear window switches.

Your best bet is to either take all of them out and show them to the VW parts dept, and then collect them as they come in. I'd be stunned if they had them all in and available on the day.

Sorry, but I love this quote…must be me!!!

I changed my dash clock lights to 2w and they are better, but not perfect. I may go to led's soon, as they are brighter without the heat problem…
Probably not too difficult to cobble together mountings for them for the heater and cig lighter with black masking tape if they stay cool?
