Cranking AMPS required to start a 1800 GTi ??

Looking to buy a GEL battery and boot mount it out of the way some place.

BUt before I go and buy one I am wondering what is the cranking amps of a normal battery to fire up a 1800 GTi?

I may as well go for a smaller one if I can get away with it as hiding it would be much easier.

Currently looking at a Red Top 25 with has C 680A or a smaller Red Top 20 which has C 545A. WOuld the latter be sufficient do you think?

(I am running a 1800 16V engine by the way)

Most rally cars use the 30 size, but you'll get a better deal if you buy a Hawker instead. If you can wait until Autosport in January, there's usually someone doing a good deal on a battery, mounting bracket and charger. Around ?150 for cash.

Dont really need to go that high as its just a normal road car mate. I do have one of them in my Escort, but for this application I am mainly going for dimensions with enough power.

I can already get a 25 delivered for around ?90 also. No need for an extra charger and I have an ally mounting kit in my stash from my monster that I never ended up using.

Just want to ensure I have enough amps if I go for a smaller battery. Any ideas what the cranking amps of a standard Mk1 battery is? Again I dont have my car with me so cant check myself?

Cheers

I've only got a small block so can't compare, but I can't see a problem if your engine wants to start.

Define the word "Need" ?

Have you ever seen a nice set of wheels and thought "Oh, I need some of them for my car". When your car already has wheels on it. Well, its that kind of need… :D

I dont need it in there at all to be honest, I just have this thing about not having batteries in the engine bay. Makes the bay look a lot more tidy in my eyes. I have lots of spare room in there, I am just being a tart, but thats me! ;)
