clock / instrument cluster removal?
Hey
I've tried a search but not come up with anything…
I was wondering, how do I remove the instrument panel from a 83 GTi? I've got the dash surround off and taken out the 2 screws that hold it in place but I'm unsure as to how to remove the cluster? Haynes is useless!
Basically, I've got the oil buzzer / light problem and I'm trying to find out why. I had a look around but couldn't work out where the buzzer is located or where the earth is for it (seems to be the common problem) so perhaps if anyone knows where they are I won't need to remove the clocks?
Cheers in advance
Adrian

Reach behind the clocks and disconnect the speedo cable. Rotate the clockset forwards from the top then lift out slightly and disconnect the mutipin plug from along the bottom. Should come out then. Go easy with the speedo cable, can be a bit brittle if old.
Presume the oil pressure is correct and not low, and the sensors are in gwo.

It seems to usually be a fault in the circuit board or the earth. Fortunately never had this prob myself. Have a read of THIS, should help you a bit further. Quite a few links to various discussions in the electrical FAQ.

Buzzer is on circuit board 14 below…..a copper wound coil with a flap at the end - stick it with bluetac or similar….BUT MAKE YOUR OIL PRESSURE GUAGE IS WORKING….
