Central Locking in my Mk1 Driver!

How would I go about fitting a Central Locking system in my Mk1, what does it involve changing and fitting?

Thanks, Curtis

I did this to my 1.8 CL a month or so ago, it's kinda simple..

The basics are take off your door card, mount the servo motor to the bottom corner nearest the lock-mech and use the rod straight to the door-pin holder on the lock mech..

However if you have all the parts it's easy, an it would have been like above if like I say had all the parts. When I came to do mine the actual connecting device from the door lock-mech to the door pin was AWOL I also had no door pins in place an the rod was missing.

So I actually took out the door lock-mech drilled through the lever that controls the door pin and ran the rod which attaches the the door pin lever to the servo motor. I'm making this sound allot more complicated then it actually is tbh.

Best thing to do is take off the door card, have a good butchers around, test fit the servo by placing it where you would like it, an then make sure you can open your window fully! Even with me doing the same on both doors I found that the servo was brushing the drivers side window when it was fully open..

It's really simple to do, honestly and I'm sure with a potter about you'll end up enjoying it tbh!

After you've the servos in the wiring takes place, get yourself some male and female bullet connectors from maplins an some lightweight wire, they sell them in 10meter lengths I first brought one an then had to go back for another. So I'd just buy 2x10meter packs as you've four wires in the drivers side and two on the slave in the passenger. That should give you a few meters spare so you can place the control box somewhere out the way in the car itself.

If you need me too I can give you images of where I've placed mine, I will say I've not done it by the book but there again the golf mk1 was never really designed for them in the first place so nowts by the book is it ;)

Parts:
Bullet plugs(red ones) male

Bullet plugs(red ones) female

Machine wire(10meter length)

Kind regards,
Didge

I'm so flipping lonely, it's killing me lol at least I can laugh about it!!

It makes sense to change to the later mk2 door connectors at 57p each.
The mk1 ones only have one hole in them for the door pin rod.
Whilst the mk2 ones have 2 holes in them all ready.
One for the locking motor rod and the door pin rod.
I have this on my car as part of the alarm.
But I had no door pins fitted and a duff motor unit.
I ordered a spare one from SPAL that was fitted on the car.
It came with a metal connector block that was a right pain to join the rods together.

Much easier to get the mk2 ones.

Just some images.
