Car trying to start on its own!!

Just parked up in my B reg GTI cab. Put the alarm on and walked away and the starter motor running constantly. Started the car up and it still kept turning. Had to disconnect my battery. Any idea?

Gremlins...

Ignition switch? I suppose the starter solenoid could jam too. Can't think what else it might be, its a very simple circuit so not much else could go wrong.

I put the battery back on today and it still kept turning over so once I started her up I pulled a wire off starter to stop it turning. When I used the car later on I reconnected the wire and back to normal again. Will keep post updated. Thanks paul

if pulling the small wire off the starter stopped it turning then its probably the ignition switch on the back of your ignition barrel
