car stereo

My newly purchased MK1 GTi is in good condition on the whole but the stereo is totally smashed. (EG: it aint working)

Where is the best place to go to get a new stero?  Guessing it best to get a newer one.  Would halfords sort me out?  I am not after much just a standard CD player, radio and a few speakers in the doors.

Any help would be appreciated

halfords is one of the best places to go and LOOK at stereos to see whats on offer and what you like but they will always be cheaper on the internet.
I bought a sony mp3 head unit not long ago Halfords wanted ?180, did a bit of shopping on the internet once i had the model number and found it for ?120.
their little display thing is good for checking out speakers too, not many other places let you try the stuff out before you buy it but they will always be cheaper on the internet.

alot of u may disagree but i would say ebay is one of the best places to look. alot of car stereo manufacturers and retailers let last yr models go for dirt cheap as 2005/2006 models are being released. same goes for speakers. head units are not bad 2nd hand but speakers definately need to be brand new.

i just replaced my kenwood mini disc for a newer model, got it off ebay for ?80, its in the shops for ?280, not bad eh!

looks mint too and centainly works 100%
