Alternator ? (Now with added pics)
My alternator died on me last night - going to a local scrap yard tomorrow to search for a replacement.
Can anyone tell me if I need a Mk1 or Mk2 alternator - or are they the same?
My car is a 89 1.8 Clipper Cab (Carb model).
The presure is on as I had planned to go to the VW Festival in Leeds on Sunday - cheers Rob.

Same as the mk2 8v alternator.
One long allen head bolt going through the block and bottom bit of alternator and the other side connected to the adjuster on the top of the alternator.

Cheers for the reply.
Still having problems finding the correct alternator - I have tried 3!
It seems I have a strange Valco aftermarket one fitted - the wires are bolted on rather than push on & it also has a extra black plastic cowling on the wiring end.

Look at a Passat. I converted mine to a 90A alternator and the only difference was the M8 stud rather than the large spade.

Yeya - funny you should mention a Passat, a mate of mine had a look at the alternator I took out & said it looked like one out of a Passat!

thatsn the 65A version, remember if you go from 45A or 65A to 90A you should really change the loom from the alternator to the starter motor as its heavier cable
