alt/batt problem

i drove my mk1 today it was fine then washed the car and put a plug that come off on to the temp 12v guge now i went out after my cars volts was on 10 and droping as i drove to the point when it went to 0 and the car died WHAT HAVE I DONE!!! RED LIGHT ON DASH BATT TOO,NOOO!!!!

Did you use a pressure washer in the engine bay? Water can get into the electrics / alternator etc and cause problems. Let it dry / cover electrical parts in wd40 and see what happens again...
