Alarm Systems

hi all, im looking to put a Reasonably priced( nothing over the top!!) alarm in my cabby but unsure if i need anything in particular, as for when i want to arm the alarm with the roof down - i am hoping someone can advise me as to the best make model etc to buy - if if i do need it to have any particular function for the soft top.

Hi

I used a Toad Ai606 on my mk1. You can fit a microwave sensor to this alarm these are designed for cabbys. the alarm comes standard with ultrasonic sensors these can be disabled by pushing the remote buttons in a combination when arming.

I looked into an alarm a couple of years back and that was the one that seem to fit the bill (still not done it yet though). Micro wave sensors are a must for a cabby as the normal ones will trigger with the slightest movement of the hood, nevermind with the hood down. you can also expand this alarm to work remote central locking which aint that hard to fit either.
Not sure if your gonna fit it yourself, but if you do then i dont think your insurance will give you any discount?

Yeah the microwave sensor is the one your after, I had a Meta system installed (by a flippin monkey it now seems), It is a good system and the uwave sensor works well, and it is also connected to my central locking.

Even tho I had it fitted by what I thought was a decent shop I've had alot of problems with dodgy connections causing the alarm to do some weird things.

In hindsight I should have fitted it myself, that way I would have known where to look when it went wrong.

the instalation thing annoys me too. I do electronics and have the interests of my own car in mind so would and previously have done a better job than most of these places who fit the alarm in record time to get teh next job done and make plenty for it. I have seen the workmanship of some instalations and its shocking!

I have a meta imobiliser fitted in mine which looks like they droped the car at the zoo with all the parts and came back to pick it up at the end of the day, and they still felt proud enough to stick there company logo in the windows!
