HORNNNNNNN!

ok, i press the horn theres a clicking so i brought a new horn and still doing it any ideas what this is, horn not beeping

Mine did this also, the only way to cure it is to fit a relay with direct battery connection, as it has come about through voltage drop.  There just isnt enough power to move the diaphragms.

This happened on mine after i had the horn off the car for a while, with nothing attached to the wires, has something similar happened to yours or did it just happen suddenly? :dontknow:  

There are two circuits on the horn for a GTI - one goes through the relay and then through the switch on the steering wheel, to activate the other circuit, via the relay.
If the relay is clicking, then that side of the circuit is working.
If the new horn still doesn't work, then you need to examine the other circuit itself - the wiring on this circuit is notorious for getting tatty, being down by the road in the salt and rain, etc. If the wiring is poor, it can lead to a voltage drop as mentioned above.

were do i find the other curcit?as it must be this as the relays clicking.

It starts at fuse 16 (should be a working 10-amp) - comes out of C13 on the rear of the relay board as a black & yellow wire, and then goes to the horns. It comes out of the horns as a brown wire which goes back to C15 on the relay board. it hops out of the board again (still brown) at B25 and goes back  in at L2, goes through the horn relay (relay position 4) and finally comes out of L3 and goes to earth within the dash loom. (All details from Haynes, and assuming an '83 model-year fuse board).

Do a few continuity tests between these points, and if it is all connected, then the connections and/or last few inches of wire at the horns is probably dropping the voltage too much, due to being corroded - replace the cruddy-looking wire sections and/or clean/replace the connectors.

Also check that the copper ring on the steering wheel and a 'spring connector' attached to the steering column are making contact. If not, take the wheel off, rotate it slightly and test.

Also make sure that the earth lead at the bottom of the steering columnm is clean and making a decent earth.
