GSF reversing switch MFA sucess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Purchased a reversing MFA switch (black) part number 191-919-623 for 14.50 plus vat. After testing which pins linked using an electrical tester I moved two wires in the block using a needle and it took less than 5 minutes! You can imagine how I felt when I engaged R and the 2 rear lights came on , an added bonus is that the MPG reader is now working in the 40s and not the 90s,I still can't understand why?
Will try and describe how I did it more clearly at the weekend.

MPG reader? Is that the MFA one or the pointy needle consumption gauge :?: .
Does the gauge still work in fifth? I?d be keen to know how you did it as my reverse don?t work and I?ve tried rebuilding the switch twice and using parts from a second switch all with no success. Well done that man!

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

My Ecom meter has never worked as the gauge is faulty, but for some reason the MFA is working correctly.
Don't bother rebuilding the old Reversing switch, buy the GSF switch and alter 2 wires in the block using a needle. Slide the needle in from the front of the block and pull the wire at the rear the wire and the female spade will come out of the block, before you push it in other slot spring up the spur sticking out from the rear, then when you push it in the female spade will click into place. I need to draw a diagram to explain and will do this when I have some spare time.

If you buy the GSF switch you will see each spade has a number next to it.
Viewed from above:
Spade 1 & 3 = left plunger switch = ecom meter
spade R & 15 = Right plunger switch= reversing light
I relocated the two inside wires from the lower outside(on the old switch) to 3 & R

See my first post Kev
Its the reversing switch available from GSF that can be converted, the switch is from a mk 2 GTI or MK3
My MFA is working properly now for the first time in 5 years along with the reversing light. Very happy.

October 1982.
It works perfectly for me, both the reversing light is working with the MFA.
The switch is brand new which means my rotten old switch has gone in straight in the bin!
The beauty is that if you do find an original VW switch you can switch back the wires on the block. Doubt if you will ever find a new Reversing switch from VW.
All happy in the Lhasa camp

I posted on the other site, no one seemed to mind.
I think the GSF switch will work on all the MK1s with the block type switch .My spades on the old block where numbered 1-2 and RL2 the working pins at each side of the block. Will try and do some drawings at the weekend.

Sorry, been very busy on the working front 24/7. Will take some photos when I have some free time. The rewiring of the switch is really easy all you have to do is relocate 2 wires in the block.

I took some pictures today of the reversing switch conversion, but unfortunately they did not come out very well, I suppose it was the flash.
I'll try and take some more tomorrow.
Feel like I've let the side down ops: I'll post them anyway forgive the dirty engine and dodgy connectors:
