bit off an odd question really, but im looking into putting an aaz lump into my mk1 but im struggleing to a decent aaz that isn't stupid money or stupid mileage. But I have been offered an non turbo diesel mk3 with around 80k on it which has failed it mot. is it feasible to convert it to aaz spec? Im aware i'll need the pump, turbo and pistons etc but are there any other differences I should be aware of?
I know it sounds a lot of work and wouldn't entertain the idea if it wasn't so low mileage with history and so cheap. but I had planned on changing the pump and turbo eventually anyway

the aaz has oil squirters to cool the pistons, the head is a better alloy what i was told once? and the pump injectors, manifolds clutch and the block has a oil return for the turbo
Bert
Thanks for the reply! I hadn't considered oil returns etc. I suspect an different crank too. on reflection id be better off putting my efforts into refurbing a high miler aaz.
I did think of a 1y but I'm pretty obsessive with it looking factory fitted so the aaz does look to be the way forward

Liking that a lot Bert, very tidy install. Quite tempted to put one in my S1 just to preserve the ol' 1.5 lump

you see bert thats what in talking about, it looks at home there, like a guy called claus put it in on a production line in wolfsberg in 1983!
I love it. if mine ends up half that good i'll be a happy man!

Did you see my question in electrics re swapping the engine loom from a caddy?
I seem to remember reading on the caddy forum its just a plug into the fuse box jobbie. is there any truth in this? and would the caddy loom be different the later the model?
