Personally I think swirl x aint that good.
I would go for meguiars ultimate compound if working by hand.
Halfords sell meguiars so you can take advantage of there 3 for 2 offer.
If there really bad you may be better off getting it professionally machine polished.
If you want to go down that route then go onto 'detailing world' and look in the region section at the bottom.
There will be a list of pros in your area.

You could always buy some polish/wax ect from halfords and have swirl x or ultimate compound as the free item.
That way if it doesnt do the job you aint wasted money on it as it was free.
You will need some good applicators and microfibre cloths (i always buy meguiars)
Once the car is swirl free or as good as you can get it then its quite simple to keep it that way.
Dont forget that polish wont give any protection to the paint. All it does is add extra depth ect (some will hide swirls with fillers, like autoglym)
After polishing you need to lock it in with some wax.
Once again I use meguiars (i dont really use anything else to be honest)
Also get yourself a nice wash mit and get as much dirt off the car as possible with hosepipe or pouring water over it before you start washing it.

Something like SSR2 would do the job for you
http://www.shopnshine.co.uk/poorboys-super-swirl-remover-ssr2-16oz-473ml
Or if they are very light swirls Dodo Juice Lime Prime might be perfect for you
http://www.shopnshine.co.uk/dodo-juice-lime-prime-250ml
However the key to removing swirls is to get a nice even finish on the surface of the paintwork so it is easier to achieve with a machine polisher, this is something I can also do at very competitive prices so get in touch with me on dom@shopnshine.co.uk
Once polished you do want to protect with wax.
Hope this helps

Black will show any blemish very easily and I began to notice the swirls.
I bought Swirl X and have to say its done a great job. Very time consuming by hand on a big car but once I put the Meguiars NXT wax on it got a really good deep shine to it. I did the job last night and was very pleased with both products.

removing swirls form VW rock hard paint will be pretty tough by hand unless you are the six million dollar man!!! All paints are different and it will depend on choice of pad and product used. From my experience The . meguiars microfibre system does a pretty good job and as it is used with a DA , a novice machine user can achieve a good result. Scholls concepts polishes and compounds are excellent aswell S17+ and a polishing pad via rotary will amaze you, finish with S40 for a wet look finish.

Light rubbing with clay block
Full buff with foam pad using Swissvax polish
Then full coat of Swissvax carnauba wax
Looks better than factory finish!

Then do it after the clay block/polish and wax, it will be as smooth as glass!
