A lucas guy has refurbished my alternator, the bearings were pretty worn out as were the brushes and it didn't have much output on the bench test either, he's properly built the whole thing even new nuts on it and given it a lick of paint for me. Am I right in saying the centre piece inbetween the 2 halves of the housings should be red? I don't think it would have been silver originally, also going to get the original sticker just as a finishing touch

Found a picture of what is Apatantly a new Bosch alernator which looks similar to yours, mine is an earlier one like the one on the right and is red as well. The pulley should be yellow zinc plated as well, but difficult to get the right finish without the proper kit.

thanks a lot for the image that's very useful, yeah the zinc plating looks like a real dark art and the black matches all the other pulleys and some new alternators come with black pulleys so I wanted it that wayRichardHall said

It's amazing the difference the red strip makes to the look of the alternator. It totally transforms it.
Here is mine before and after…

I used regular silver caliper paint for the body and red caliper paint for the strip I had cans hanging around after doing someone's car, cheap and looks mintShughy said
Not sure what the code is for the bosch - I just have a can of the mars red and it looks fine.

I have painted mine with a tin of Humbrol RED SATIN 132 Model paint, looked a very close match yo the original which had started to wear, and very cheap from any model/hobby shop.
