Does anyone know how?!
Does anyone know how to fit the JOM bonnet lifters. I got some today however the instructions are in German.
I have fitted these loads of times before on my mk3 and other VW's but I want to be clear before I make any if any holes in my wings.
I know the hinge bolts need to come out its more the wing attachment I need clarification on
Thanks

1st You remove the front bolt M8 from the left hinge (A)
2nd Assemble in this place the ball stud M8 x 15mm (do not forget the washer M8!).
3rd Remove saw the second (from the front page) Karrosserieschraube (B)
4th Assemble at this point, the ball screw (do not forget the washer m6!)
5th Remove the front bolt from the right hinge and mount it again the ball stud with washer.
6th For the assembly is in the right kotflugel a 4mm hole drilled at 400mm from the center of the hinges ©.
7th Enter this place an anti-rust treatment and mount the ball screw (be sure the washer is not even here!).
8th Screw the joints to remove the hoodlift and they capture the clip.
9th Assemble the hoodlift (with the kylinder up!) On the ball stud (these should be well-fitted)
10th Assemble the clip back into the joints.
these make for a good, lasting effect.
11th Repeat the same procedure for the right side.

Never liked that idea.
For mine I shortened the bar and cut some more thread on it so that it lines up with a wing bolt hole. You can either get a screw that replaces the wing bolt or remove the inner wing liner and put a nut and washer on the bolt that comes with the kit.

Sorry - I need help! I've drilled mine ready, but how on earth do I get the bolt underneath to allow me to tighten ?? Really not that technical so it's probably simple to most!

You have a couple of options:
(1) Remove arch spats if you have them, remove the plastic inner wing liners and then you will have access to put the nut on and tighten it up.
(2) Use A rivnut to provide a thread in a blind hole. Get stainless steel ones.
Make sure you get some paint and sealer in that hole when you fit to stop corrosion !!

I would never drill the wing and inner wing to fit lifters - always shorten the lifter struts to line up with a wing bolt hole.

Cheers Ade, I read different views about drill / not drill. Am I doomed now? What's likely to happen here? I have the clipper kit so I just need to take wheel off, remove plastic cover and access will be there?

I have never taken an inner liner off a clipper kitted mk1 - not sure if you have to remove the arch cover first to get the liner out, certainly on a tin top the liner holds the fixings that the arch cover screws screw into so it has to be removed.

It can be a fiddle to slide the linner out of the way, I slide mine towards the suspention to remove it but there was a lot of tugging and pulling!
Put some paint on the bear metal around the drilled hole to stop it rusting.

Not doomed at all, just make sure you protect the bare metal and seal it up.

I've managed to take the inner liner off (& yes, clipper kit piece had to come out to) How's best to seal this? From the top side? I.e. I can secure my nut from underneath and seal the piece at the top so I can put wing back together??

You ain't going to get a lot of water/dirt coming up from underneath as the wheel arch linner stops all that, you properly noticed how clean and rust free it is under the wing.
I think it's painting the hole which is the important job as bear metal starts to rust in a matter of hours.

Inner wing liner off, I had a tin of touch up paint and a little brush lying around so I painted the new hole as much as humanly possibly! Will probably look to get some sealant to run around the washer / bolt head?
Completely random question, do either of you know how the clipper arch kit is supposed to fix to the wing / car? Is it glued? Mine was held on with one screw and was so loose it's untrue.
(p.s - Have to sort the other side tomorrow / over the weekend) really not looking forward to that! But at least I know what I'm up against.
