Hammerite smooth

Post

Hi, anyone tried using Hammerite smooth aerosol? Nice shiny black finish, but I always get runs! Trying to be as light as possible with coats every 15 mins as per instructions. But I always get a drip or a run somewhere! Aaahhhh!!

Used it before with no problems. Are you getting runs 1st coat? Really need to make sure what your spraying to is prepped 1st else it won't adhear very well. Other considerations at the moment is conditions your spraying in as if outside will take alot longer to dry or even take due to temp.

Second that at the moment you need some sort of heater to raise the air temp as it can even change the sheen in your finish if too cold roll on spring.

I've used the brush on version thinned down and applied with a foam roller. Comes out very well. I did a 25ft trailer with it and everyone though it was sprayed.

If you're getting runs it sounds like it is being applied too heavy.

I've had the parts indoors for a couple of days so they were at room temperature, the Hammerite is also stored indoors. Was spraying each coat outside then bringing it back indoors between coats. Possibly the cold air outside causing the issue?
might be best to wait until spring! Thanks for all the input though.

Not sure what you are painting but I've stopped using Hammerite as it's rubbish at stopping any rust and is to brittle so chips off.
Anything in the engine or suspension I've painted with it seems to develop rust after a couple of years.
I've now taken the hammerite off and used an epoxy mastic, great stuff with some great reviews, been on my car for 5 years and still looking good.

I think the change in temp could the contributing factor then. The weather at the moment especically where I am is very damp also so with that an the change in temp is not a good combination for applying paint.
Last time I did a few parts I did it in my kitchen much to my wifes discussed!!!!
