care advice for my polished alloys?

Post

hi, i've never had polished wheels before (bare polished with no laquer), not sure what the best procedure is for keeping them polished looking.

i've had them on for a few weeks now and i see grit etc.. building up on them, i don't want to risk rubbing the grit into the polished surface.
even with hosing them its bound to leave some grit.

any of you guys have experience in these type of wheel care?

cheers

Heard good stuff about Nanolex products for sealiing bare aluminium, not tried them personally but worth a look, lush rims by the way, wouldn't use em in the winter too
often though, maybe snowfoam em then gentle pressure wash before applying the sealant

Could you not clear lacquer the wheels to stop the metal reacting?

Pretty much any wax/sealant will do the job. You'll need to keep on it though and give them a quick once over each week or they oxidise in no time.

You'll also want to repolish every month or two as they'll get scratches from cleaning etc.

Bare rims are agro but that said kurb rash is easy to remove and they do look awesome. Don't run them in the winter though!

make sure you use a specific wheel cleaner that is designed for use on bare asluminium or magnesium wheels! if you use regular car shampoo or wheel cleaner it can damage the surface and will need repolishing apparently!

Even though i used poorboys wheel sealant, it must have worn off or something as i had to polish out some watermarks on sunday which was left from going 3 washed without using the correct wheel cleaner  :(

Autosol is fine unless you want show standard mirror polished rims. Just remember to use a sealant afterwards like poorboys or at the very least a wax.
