Nice tip mate!
Just for clarification, I take it your referring to a 'Vinyl' roof and not a 'Mohair' one?

I'd guess at mohair if he's using washing powder.

Either roof will clean that way. I've heard Lux soap flakedx in warm water.
Soft bristled brush, rinse well.
Don't forget to re proof and treat your top later.
303 aerospace protectant do two types for the fabric and vynil. This stuff is great and protects from UVA rays etc.

karmannndunc ,
As chortle said, it can be done on either.
Just start with a very mild solution to start with repeat if nessasary but I would on 'Mohair' let it dry first and check for any bleaching or staining.
The reason I questioned it was to clarify the point for our new/young or inexperienced Members and not for such experts.

apparently Milton sterilizing fluid will kill the algae spores so it doesn't come back so quick.
Mild solution, soft bristle brush etc.

Try a flash magic eraser on vinyl. Once you have you'll know why they earned their name.
I used to import them from the states before flash marketed them over here.

You have to be careful of what you use. Anything with Petroleum Distillates in them can attack the plasticizers in the vinyl roof.
