Workable MK GTI Wanted

HI I am after a MK1 GTI. Can cope with a little bit of welding  but not things like complete inner wings as I dont have the space to fully strip a car down (yet)….

Dont care if it is 1600 or 1800 and colour not important but would prefer an original colour if possible.

MOT failure ok or something that has a blown engine/gearbox is also fine. I have good access to interiors and trim for a project.

Basically want something I can work on for a few weeks to get through an MOT no matter how ugly and then spend the next 10 years turning from an ugly eyesore to a nice looking standard MK1 GTI and get over the regret of having owned 3 of theese when i was in my 20's without realising what i had. aaahhhh

Budget is tight for purchase but the better the car the more I can convince the wife it will be worth it. Hoping £2K will find me a doable one.

Can get it collected on a transported if needed

Did that come within your 2k budget? It looks decent

Just under 3500. So stretched a little. Needs paint and about 1500 of bits and pieces so will be about 8k when back to former glory but is useable and workable.

The exterior looks great,  what's the interior like? 

Needs carpet but all seat were reupholstered in original spec cloth. They do feel a little soft to me but I have not sat in original ones for years so will climb in someone's car this weekend
