Description:

It took me 6 years to find this car. one in this colour, spec. And condition…
Im not really sure I want to sell the old boy, but if the price is right then it may have to go.  This car was an original barn find. It was stored for 24 years in a barn in Scotland, where I purchased it from the guy who rescued it.
He managed to persuade the owner to finally part with it after the estates owner passed away.
When I drove the 9 hours to Scotland to view it I knew I had to have it.
The car was mot’d but needed a few things to finish it off.

I drive the car another 9 hours back to its new home and the only thing that went bit south was the drivers wiper blade came loose. But a quick road side pit stop soon got us back under way..!
Since I’ve owned the car (June 2018) it’s had a no expense spared life. And being kept in a dry garage…

Things I’ve done to the car…
New wiper blades - the first thing obviously…!
New wiper motor and wiper motor cover.
New rear lights as old ones had cracks in.
Second hand P slot alloy wheels which I had professionally straightened, painted.Along with new Pirelli tyres all round.
Sourced P slot center caps. These are rarer than rocking horse poo. Also painted to match the alloys.
Newly powder coated gti front and rear anti roll bars along with all new brackets and bushes.
New bilstein shocks and springs lowered 30mm with new strut top mounts.
New bottom arms with new ball joints.
New single headlight front grill. I still have the original twin headlight grill and spots. I just prefer the look of the single grill.
New front discs and pads, along with new ns rear break cylinder.
New alternator.
Second hand Wolfsburg steering wheel.
Rear spare wheel well painted due to small rust hole appearing. Common on tin top mk1’s.
New drive shafts. Only replaced due to old ones looking rusty.
New sump. Had a slight oil leak and rusty.
New fuel filler cap
New fuel filler downpipe to fuel tank.

Bad points..  The radio doesn’t work. It’s not original and I’ll probably remove it anyway.
There is a small fuel leak from the bottom of the carb. It doesn’t affect the running. Just appears after sitting for a while.
Some small dings on the roof. A decent dent repair shop could get them out no problem.
The rear parcel shelf is original but has warped over time and has some slight damage near to the drivers side hinge.
The car has had paint over the years so don’t expect it to be immaculate. But it is in very good condition for the year.

The car runs and drives excellent. I’ve taken it to a few shows and it always gets lots of attention.
It has the original service book.
2 sets of keys. Fuel filler cap key is different
This car is more of an investment as the prices of mk1’s is always on a steady rise.
The car also comes with many spares that I have replaced as I know parts can be hard to come by.
I also have all the receipts for well over 5K since my ownership.
Serious offers only.

I insure the car for 12K on an agreed valuation with my insurance.
Offers north of this if interested.
