VW heritage plastic bumpers

So yesterday I received my small plastic (wrap around) bumpers from vwh. First off they are really quite good considering they said they would be marked etc, I really can't complain for the price. 

Mock fitted them to my late 1991 gti cabriolet  this morning and they don't sit quite flush to the body so I might re drill and tap some holes or make new brackets up so they sit a little closer. 

Anyone done this? What did you do with the wings as I don't really want to drill holes in two perfect wings for obvious reasons.
