Mk1 ident plates

Hi,

I used to own (a few years ago now) a fairly original Mk1. 
I think it was about a Y reg, 1.6 5 speed.
The boot had been de-badged and lock removed, was kinda tidy. 
One day I took the carpet up driver side, after a National Tyres used the floor pan to jack the car! Resulting in a raised interior floor. Anyway upon removing carpet I found a rather neatly cut hole near the seatbelt anchor. 
So I'm wondering, is there a car ident plate there or about that had been removed?
