Sunday i brought a 1992 Clipper in Inca blue, it does not have the original interior in but does have genuine 14" BBS alloys and the original engine. Although the end of the air box appears to be missing!! Also has had some paintwork issues which need addressing. Had a new roof 3 years ago and after todays s**t weather i can confirm does not leak! Roof is working too with no issues.
I've brought it as an investment for the future and a bit if fun for me and the kids in summer!
I am interested to see what peoples thoughts are on either keeping it totally standard i.e keeping twin headlights and grill instead of going single headlight and a de badged grill, changing wheels to 15"bbs rs reps and maybe lowering? Or keeping it totally standard?
All opinions are welcome

It has already had a few changes from standard anyway - the seats and wheels, smoked indicators it does look very nice., if it was mine I would change the wheels to 15 " RAs or some Polished Rivage ones, paint the VW badge black and remove the stickers on the doors. If it's going to transport the kids then a three point rear seat belt conversion would be top of my list. I wouldn't lower it, in my opinion Cabbys with the clipper kit don't look right when really low.

It's your car and you have to look at it on the drive so I don't think there are any rights or wrongs. Only thing I would say is that if you are looking at a future investment make sure whatever you add, you can remove in the future and keep the original bits.

Thanks mate. I'm not keen on the seats, they haven't been fitted correctly and I'm 99.9% sure they're in the wrong way around! I'm not keen on the stickers either! What wheels would have come on as standard?
Regards to the 3 point seatbelt conversion, I have looked into this a little. But didn't really come up with an answer! Is there a solution?
Thanks
Matt

Keep it original or subtle upgrades??!?

I've tried google to find original wheels for a clipper and it comes up with loads of different ones haha! I do like the polished rivage ones though.

Nice car! Saw that one recently as live quite near to it. It's a tough choice standard v subtle mods. Technically the three point belt is a mod but IMO future proofs the car without it looking modified. This has been my recent slight change of direction as I had to pop in a non standard stainless manifold due to time and cost restrictions. I will replace the rest with stainless in time. I may upgrade the shocks but keep the ride hide stock. I may upgrade the headlamp loom etc etc. To me this doesn't make it a max power special and most would never know, but it keeps the classic appeal and preserves it for the future. As has been said, you can always keep the original kit - the best of both worlds.
Thank you. I love your sport line

Yea I agree with the seatbelts. I have 2 kids (8&4) I need them! But I do like the Euro look. Will probably go for a single headlight and grill etc. Still not sure on wheels. I had put a deposit down on a set of bbs rs reps. I'm not going to lower it, as I'll upgrade to 15" wheels and can just be doing without a rearranged spine every ride! Going to get a respray, new badges and chrome side strips, remove the stickers on the side and definitely sort the interior out! Not sure what to do there though yet!? But thanks again for the input.

First of all keep it for a couple of months as it is and just look at it and drive it.
Then I would just get the paint job done and then take another look at it and then think about other subtle changes I'd want to make like the wheels etc…
You mention value, well as others have said standard spec will retain a higher value than a car with Mod's.
It took me three years to make the subtle changes on my car because one I wanted to be sure and secondly to source the bits like wheels, stereo, rear lights etc…
Finally I've keep all the original parts and could put the car back to the original spec in half a day, minus the mohair roof of course as it came with vinyl.
Good luck anyway, do enjoy the car as there great fun and keep us posted with some updates as you go!

Well it's your car so basically you can do what you want but having said that here's what I'd do in your shoes.
