Put it on ebay with a full and honest detailed description with lots of clear pictures.

It will find its own value based on what people will pay for a car in such a condition.

1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Welcome to the club first of all.

I'm going to move your post to 'Mk1 General Chat' and out of 'Helllllpppp!!' because we try to use this for emergencies rather than general discussion.

I'll be back later with a reply to your question. ;)

Have a look at what's for sale and what the selling prices are, you could post up some pictures and information on what's good, what' been done and whats wrong with the car on here and we can advise on what we might pay?

1988 Mk1 Golf GTi Cabriolet 1.8cc DX, K-jet. Daily drive. 317,000 miles and counting
1978 Mk1 Scirocco GLS 1.6cc FR, Webber carb. Weekend toy.

Just as Mark said above, the more detail the better with photos.

We can give you a rough idea of what ones are making in the market. But it is very rough of course.

Also look at classic car adverts and auction houses but don't get to excited by prices you see because very few maybe only 15% make that money unless it is very special like a 3dr GTI's but again only at the very top end.

Now when you are ready to sell, other than getting the car looking as smart as you can one way to advertise is to use this Forum.

To do this please read the club rules on Selling Cars and complete the template included.

How to value a golf

All of the above but prices vary wildly and people who really want one will hold out for a genuine car at a sensible price. Some of lower price cars which are ugly and need work, lots of average cars wanting a kings ransom and some really nice examples either very high priced taking an age to sell or if prices right snapped up in a short space of time. Ask yourself a few questions. Do you car what happens to it, what does the it owe you or what do you want to do with the money what would it cost to go from ok to superb if that to case. All of this will influence what you are prepared to sell it for. If you are looking for 3k then likely get that all day. If you are looking for 15k it better be something a bit special in great condition and with massive history and low mileage/ previous owner count. Easter is a good time for cabs though as you hit the sunny buyers club. If you do want good money also try some local car shows or village fairs that have car shows and put a sticker in the window you may be pleasantly surprised. Not sure I would go the eBay route myself if a nice one maybe one of the magazines like practical classics or indeed on this forum. I brought mine through here and actually only joined in the first place to look for it then the rest of the team get their teeth into you and won’t let you leave

If your not selling until Easter. Start selling it now with a higher price and then come down until you start getting bites. Putting cars on auction sites is a risky way as its a small window in time to catch 2 willing buyers.
