Guess the Asking Price 'Season 4' competition.

Good morning everyone.

Well as you can see we're starting a brand new (fresh) post for the new season.
For those of you that have played or followed the post over recent months you'll have noticed just how slow the old post has become when loading it.
So the only way we can get round that is to start an all new one.

I'm having a problem closing the old one but I've asked Admin Ade to take a look at that.
Once we've sort that out the old post will be still available for reference and fun reading purposes only!

So as we close it I see it has some interesting numbers to finish with.



Now as this post is new all the previous players will no longer be automatically linked to this, so over the next day or so I'll be posting up names as I find them just so I'm sure they have at least once been notified!  

Next Saturday morning I will post up the rules and scoring system for the league so we are ready to kick off next Sunday morning.

Hopefully we'll have a season to remember and as we've seen in past years the winter just flies by.

I'm awake!!  

Been waiting with baited breath for Season 4 to begin.

Hope this season I play more like a top 6 team rather than a bottom 3.

At least I think I dont need to worry about  relegation to a lower division of GAP do I?

😂 no lower leagues thankfully but I've just had a quick look at the cars again.

I think it's fair to say that on average the price of the cars this season are higher but take into consideration the following.

The £ has lost a lot of ground against the € since 'Season 3'.
The Market here regarding supply is shrinking.
Parts are more expensive and harder to find.
Workshop repair/paint costs are increasing.
Demand is ever Increasing.
The less there are the more they're wanted.

All that combined must have a serious impact on pricing and you can stir into that pot what sellers are thinking 💭

Now this is a reality big subject and I could write a book about it.

Whether they are selling a part or a car everyone uses the internet to get a rough idea of what they can ask.
In short, they see something similar (or not even close when you compare the details) then they add a % and start to feel good.

But in reality we know differently, don't we! 😉 👍🏼

THE RULES.

The rules are very simple.
Each Sunday morning I will post up the advert for a Golf Mk1 that has been up for sale within the last three years.
The pictures are the originals and I have translated all the information that the seller provided into English.

All you have to do is guess what the asking price was for the car in £'s.
WARNING! Not what you think it's worth or what you'd pay for it.
(that's a mistake players often make at the start)

Next step is simply post the amount here and if you wish give your thoughts on why you came to that number or feel free to add anything you want. Banter plays a crucial part of the fun of this game!

The deadline for you to guess is Friday 1:00pm GMT.
We will collect all the guesses and on Saturday morning I will announce the results.
(as we need time to sort out the winners and prepare the post for the following morning)


SCORING.

Winner = 5 points
Second = 3 points
Third = 1 point
Guess within £50 of the actual asking price = 1 bonus point

(in the event of a tie both players will receive the full entitlement of points)

Now as the on field referee I will award bonus points throughout the season for various reasons.
For example I'll give points away for amusing, interesting or factual comments. Occasionally I'll spot something on the car that's not right and if you're the first to find it then you'll get a bonus point, so you get the idea.
It's completely random!

Back in the room ...

Well I was just looking at our first car for tomorrow morning.

So I thought I'd mention that for some reason sellers over here don't have seem to take the same care and attention to detail as they generally do back home.

This is a pattern I've seen since I started monitoring the prices going back to 2007/2008.

Poor photos, poor descriptions and generally uninteresting.  
But it's only when you talk to them that you'll often see a much different approach.

They tend to be overprotective and defensive of their pride and joy.
Although you wouldn't know that from the advert.
You can't say it's a Germanic because the Germans aren't like that, formal yes but then so are their adverts.

I've witnessed this on several occasions and in one example the owner wouldn't even drop £50 on his asking price, although I had it all in cash and showed it to him!

Now does this give you an insight into the asking prices, ya it does.
Limited supply + High demand + attitude =? 🤔

Sell my Golf Rabbit Bj 83 with standard GTI look, 15 years ago repainted, rust and accident-free (front fender still factory sealed - have never been removed!).
History & all service and spare parts bills available.
Suspension original - not deeper / wider / harder.
Not in a hurry to sell!

So there you have it, you now know as much as I do about this car.
What was the sellers 'Asking Price'?  
 

Lets start season 4 with a stab at a value of £4500.

Ok as a virgin GAP I am going to kick this off. £2780 assuming fx had it at a roundish number above 3k euro. Takes pride in the car but has fitted series one parts to it I think unless that steering wheel was standard on the driver.

Non standard grill and seats ? And was it painted in the original colour for the car ? Looks tidy think am going to go in at the high end and go for £8550

Please note as I've not mentioned it yet but all the players receive 1 point for each time they play and only one guess is allowed per week! 😉 👍🏼

I'd say the color is correct because I've seen a number of them in that shade of silver and there's also a much lighter one as well.

Worth noting that cars don't rust anything like the do back home with the salt in the air and on the roads.
We don't use salt on the roads in Austria and generally speaking it's a dry atmosphere. 😉

I will go with £3800,  nice looking car but thinking the later non GTI models might not be as sought after.

The "no rush to sell" comment has me believe that it will be pitched on the high side.
With that in mind I'll go in at £7100
