Any cabby owners own tonneau covers? Thoughts

Post

I've always wanted one for my clipper as the finishing touch just can never stomach the cost, anyone on here bought one new and if so know the best price? Haven't really looked at second hand ones wasn't sure if there's different sizes. Just pondering if it's worth the price & if it will add that cost as resale value to the car(if I ever sell it…) pictures of them fitted would be great! image.jpeg

They are a must apart from keeping your headliner clean they stop any back pressure on your roof straps. Once they've broken it's new roof time and the hood billows out the back instead of concertina folding properly.
There is 3 different types early ones no good on later cars. They don't fit.
So get one that's year appropriate.
So 81 no good for later.
88 prior are for manual frames.
Post 1990 for electric frames. The later having the power interrupters to stop you raising the roof with the cover in place…

You should be able to find a decent black one for under £100 used easily.
If not take a look on eBay.de as they are often on there for around €80 to €100 plus post. (so roughly the same price)

By the way, it is illegal to drive with the top down without one in Germany but legal here in Austria!  O_o

When driving to work I don't bother. If it's more than a 10 minute drive where I might go above 30mph I put mine on.

Looks a bit neater too!

I've driven mine at 90 to 100 mph for a 100 miles or more on the Autobahns without an issue but then I do have the XXL wind deflector which makes all the difference.

Doesn't matter what colour the hood is as you won't see it under the cover.

If your interested in a wind deflector I've just supplied a White XLC to a guy in Spain who has an all white cabriolet. White with a white hood and interior. I'll drop him an email for a few pics so you can see it.

I've also a contact who makes these from scratch in any material colour you'd like. I had one made for a customer in leather to match his plum interior. Some pics on my website.

Cheers Hugh.

Depends on the car if you bought a quartette model you had lots of options on seat, hood and tonneau cover colour combinations.
Grey, white, blue, red interior, top options.
For instance you could of chosen red paint, red interior, red roof.. Etc.

Ohh I see that's cool, I was debating doing a red roof when I had mine done as I think they look awesome but decided on the original black in the end

Well I think it's fair to say that it was a huge success.  :o
We did six days the following year at the Woertersee GTI Treffer and drove almost a 1,000 miles, most of it with the top down and she loved it!
Just imagine driving over the mountains of Austria at 2,000 meters plus with snow all around you, pure blue skies, +25 degrees and all with the top down.
Don't think it can get much better than that but a word of warning, it won't work in a tin top!    :P

She still isn't in love with the car but she tolerates it.  ;)
